Tourist Visa
Who must apply for a Tourist Visa (Temporary Resident Visa - TRV) for Canada:
Citizens of non-visa-exempt countries: Most countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and some parts of Europe require a tourist visa to enter Canada.
Individuals planning to visit Canada for tourism, to visit family or friends, or to attend events.
Applicants who do not have an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).
Exceptions (who does not need to apply for a Tourist Visa):
Citizens of visa-exempt countries: They can enter Canada with an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) if arriving by air.
U.S. Permanent Residents: They only need an eTA to fly to Canada.
Holders of valid Canadian visas: They can enter without needing to apply for a new visa.
Transit visitors: Those who will only pass through Canada en route to another destination in less than 48 hours.
- Valid Passport: You must have a passport valid for your entire stay in Canada.
- Proof of Sufficient Funds: You must demonstrate that you have the necessary financial resources to cover your stay in Canada, including travel, accommodation, and living expenses.
- Purpose of Visit: You must provide a valid and credible reason for your visit to Canada, such as tourism, visiting family or friends, or attending an event.
- Proof of Ties to Your Home Country: You must demonstrate strong reasons for returning to your home country, such as employment, family, property, or studies, to ensure you will not remain in Canada beyond the authorized time.
- Letter of Invitation (if applicable): If you are visiting family or friends, you might need a letter of invitation from the person inviting you.
- Travel History: You must provide details of your previous travel history, especially if you have visited Canada or other countries before.
- Proof of Good Health: In some cases, you might need a medical examination, especially if you plan to stay for more than six months.
- No Criminal Record: You must demonstrate that you have no criminal record or security issues that would make you inadmissible to Canada.
- Limited Duration of Stay: The visa generally allows a maximum stay of six months. Extending this period requires an additional application and approval.
- No Work or Study Permitted: With a visitor visa, you cannot work or enroll in long-term courses. Specific permits are required for working or studying.
- Travel Restrictions: The visa can be single-entry or multiple-entry. A single-entry visa allows only one entry into Canada, while a multiple-entry visa allows several entries within a specific period.
- Medical Conditions: If you have any medical conditions, you might face restrictions or require an additional medical examination to enter.
- Possible Refusal at Port of Entry: Even with an approved visa, entry into Canada is not guaranteed. An immigration officer at the port of entry has the authority to deny entry if they believe you do not meet the established conditions.
